In Siem Reap for New Year’s (April 13 to 15). Feeling a little piggy about that. Coming from San Francisco, I’ve had 2 NYs already (“regular” and Chinese)—now I’m on pace for 9 in 2008.
Enjoying them all, so far. Champagne is probably best on January 1, but for food, both Chinese and Cambodian holidays are better. Oh yeah, and in Cambodia the fireworks kick *ss. The stuffs 10-year-olds are setting off in the streets beats what the city of SF shoots from fisherman’s wharf for 4th of July.

Sanfrancisco called.... they object to your slur and wish you to caveat your statement with... "not all 10 year olds make their own fireworks" & "officially, rocket engines and spent CO2 catridges do not fireworks make"...
Happy New New New Year!
Ah, the CO2 and rocket engine days... Before upgrading (in terms of common sense) to waterproof fuse, I remember setting off CO2 cartridge/rocket engine fireworks with regular firecracker fuse twisted together.
The last one of these I lit burned so fast I was about three paces away when it went off. I swear it felt like shrapnel went into my back but it just the boom and a little imagination.
Amazing to escape those days with all digits, eyes, limbs in place.
